Professional Shower Caulking

Cracked, peeling or discolored caulk makes even a clean shower look neglected and leaves its joints exposed. Overturf's removes failed caulk and recaulks showers and tubs in Sarasota, Bradenton and nearby communities, helping protect shower joints and giving the whole space a fresh, finished look. Your home is too valuable for guesswork.

Signs Your Shower Caulk Is Failing

Caulk is the flexible seal in the corners and seams of a shower, and it wears out long before the tile does. It is time to recaulk when you see:

  • Caulk that is cracked, split or shrinking

  • Edges peeling or pulling away from the tile or tub

  • Gaps where the tub or shower base meets the wall

  • Dark spots or discoloration that no longer clean off

  • Old caulk that looks uneven, patched or layered

Caulking, Grout Repair and Shower Care

Caulk and grout do different jobs. Grout fills the joints between tiles on a flat surface. Caulk goes where two surfaces meet at an angle or where different materials meet, such as wall corners, the tub edge and the shower base. Those joints move slightly, so they need a flexible seal.

If the grout in the same shower is cracked or eroded, grout repair is a separate service, and we can do both in the same visit. For soap scum and dingy grout, our tile and grout cleaning service deep cleans and seals shower tile.

Between visits, running the exhaust fan, wiping down after showers and avoiding abrasive cleaners on caulk lines all help keep a shower looking fresh.

Floors, showers and lanais need different materials

A hallway floor with a few cracked joints, a shower where grout has eroded after years of daily water, and lanai tile exposed to full sun and summer storms need different grout, different cure times and different aftercare. We do not price or process them as one. Showers usually need regrouting paired with fresh shower caulking, and we can handle both in the same visit so the whole wet area is sealed at once.

We work in kitchens, bathrooms, showers, tub surrounds, backsplashes, hallways, entryways, laundry rooms and lanais, in homes, condominiums, apartments and commercial spaces. Condominium and high-rise work is routine for us, including buildings with their own access, lift and scheduling requirements.

Shower Caulking FAQs

Do you remove the old caulk first?

Yes. New caulk does not bond well over old caulk, so we remove the failed caulk and clean the joint before recaulking.

What areas of a shower can be recaulked?

Wall corners, tub-to-wall and base-to-wall joints, and the seams around fixtures, niches and benches.

How long must the shower remain dry?

It depends on the caulk used. Your technician will tell you exactly how long before you can use the shower.

Is damaged grout repaired separately?

Yes. Grout repair is a separate service from caulking, and we can do both in the same visit.

Our Shower Recaulking Process

Step 1. Evaluation

We inspect every seam and joint in the shower before any new caulk goes on.

Step 2. Check underneath

Check underneath: we look for signs of water damage, mold or structural issues. If we find any, we show you before continuing, since those need attention beyond caulking.

Step 3. Remove

The failed caulk is removed from the joints being redone.

Step 4. Clean and dry

Each joint is cleaned and allowed to dry so the new caulk can bond.

Step 5. Recaulk

Fresh caulk is applied and tooled to a clean, even line.

Step 6. Final walkthrough

We review the finished work with you and tell you how long the shower should stay dry.

Tubs, walk-in showers and stone showers

A fiberglass tub surround, a tiled walk-in shower, and a travertine or marble shower each need a different sealant, a different prep and a different level of care. Natural stone in particular needs a stone-safe sealant that will not stain the edge of the joint. We do not price or process them as one.

We also reseal tub surrounds, shower pans and curbs, benches and niches, backsplashes, vanity tops and sinks, in homes, condominiums, apartments, vacation rentals and commercial restrooms. Condominium and high-rise work is routine for us, including buildings with their own access, lift and scheduling requirements.

Caulk or grout: which joint gets which

Grout belongs between tiles on the same flat surface. Caulk belongs anywhere two surfaces meet at an angle or two different materials meet, such as wall corners, the tub edge, the shower pan and around fixtures. These joints move, and rigid grout in them will crack. Many showers we see have this reversed, which is why the same corner keeps failing. If the grout on the flat walls is also cracked or eroded, we can handle grout repair in the same visit.
